Welcome to Nitya Artists Centre, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering the vibrant world of arts, literature, and culture. Situated in the heart of Mumbai at Siddhi Vinayak Grandeur on Sayani Road, Prabhadevi, our center is a hub for artistic expression, learning, and collaboration.

At Nitya Artists Centre, we believe in the power of creativity to inspire, educate, and transform. We achieve this through a diverse range of activities, including exhibitions, workshops, lectures, socio-cultural gatherings, and thought-provoking talks. Our mission is to promote and nurture all forms of fine arts, both within our premises and in partnership with cultural institutions, public galleries, performing art organizations, literature and arts councils, and public arts organizations.

Notably, our gallery space at Prabhadevi serves as a home for the renowned ‘Artists’ Centre,’ one of Mumbai’s oldest and most esteemed art institutions. Founded in the 1950s by members of the progressive artists group and originally known as the “Artists’ Aid Fund Centre,” it has a rich history of supporting deserving artists. Over the years, it has evolved into the “Artists’ Centre,” maintaining its character of simplicity and heritage grandeur.

Brinda Miller

Brinda Miller, an acclaimed artist and creative luminary, earned a First Class degree in Textile Design from Sir J.J. School of Art in 1979, securing the top spot in Maharashtra. In 1989, she honed her talents in Drawing and Painting at Parsons School of Design in New York. Since 1982, Brinda Miller has showcased her artistry through 16 solo exhibitions and numerous group shows. Her influence extends as the longstanding Honorary Chairperson of the Kala Ghoda Association and Honorary Festival Director of the iconic Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. Contributing to education and culture, Brinda serves as an Education Consultant at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vaastu Sangrahalaya (formerly Prince of Wales Museum) and as an Advisor to the Children's Museum. With an enduring commitment, Brinda Miller has enriched the Artists' Centre for over two decades, leaving an indelible mark on Mumbai's cultural landscape, reflecting her passion for nurturing creativity.

Sameer Tapia is the visionary founder and senior partner of ALMT Legal, a prominent full-service Indian law firm that he established in London in January 2000. His vision led to the expansion of the firm, with offices now thriving in Mumbai, Bangalore, and Delhi. Beyond his legal prowess, Sameer demonstrates a deep commitment to philanthropy and community service, providing support to various charities and organizations in need. He serves as the Honorary Treasurer of the Kala Ghoda Association (KGA), actively contributing to the vibrant cultural scene. A man of diverse interests, Sameer is an ardent reader, a passionate art collector, and a staunch supporter of emerging young artists. His multifaceted contributions reflect a dedication to both the legal field and the enrichment of arts and culture.

Dr Saryu Doshi
Hon. Emeritus Trustee

Dr. Saryu Doshi, a distinguished art historian and scholar, has left an indelible mark on Indian art and culture. She made history as the first female Editor of MARG Publications, overseeing 15 significant issues until 1986. Her academic prowess led her to the University of Michigan in 1976 as a visiting professor, extending her influence internationally. Dr. Doshi's commitment to education continued with teaching positions at the University of Pune in 1978 and the University of California in 1979. As Honorary Director of Mumbai's National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), she curated thirteen exhibitions. From 1999 to 2002, she held a pivotal role as Protem-Chairman at the Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi, shaping India's art scene. Recognizing her contributions, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri award in 1998. Beyond borders, she earned the 'Women Achiever' title from the Bombay West Ladies Circle in 2001 and received a Life-Time Achievement Award from The Art Society of India in 2006. Dr. Doshi authored seven books, including co-authored works, enriching the discourse on art and culture. As a committee member of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts in New Delhi, she continues her dedication to preserving and promoting India's cultural heritage. Dr. Saryu Doshi's legacy as a trailblazer in art and culture endures, a testament to her unwavering dedication and scholarly excellence.

Saroj Satija embarked on her career as an Information Assistant at the Times of India, where her responsibilities encompassed the collection, collation, compilation, and dissemination of information. Over the course of two decades, she made significant contributions as an Editorial Assistant at Femina and undertook extensive feature-writing and interviews for various publications within the Times group. Her journey culminated with her role as the Editor of the Times of India Directory & Year Book, where she left an indelible mark. Beyond her journalistic pursuits, Saroj Satija ventured into the realm of art and culture by establishing and promoting the Bajaj Art Gallery. Her commitment to social causes is equally commendable, as she has actively supported Mumbai Mobile Creches, an NGO dedicated to running day-care centers for children at construction sites. Furthermore, her dedication to the arts is evident through her two-decade-long involvement as a Committee Member and Trustee of the Artists Centre. Saroj Satija's multifaceted career and unwavering commitment to both journalism and community initiatives exemplify her profound impact and dedication to various spheres of life.

Ashutosh Ram Apte

Born in 1962, Ashutosh Apte is a multifaceted artist with a rich background in fine arts and art pedagogy. He pursued both his bachelor's and master's degrees at Sir J. J. School of Art, spanning the years from 1980 to 1994. Ashutosh's artistic journey has been marked by a series of notable solo and group exhibitions, showcasing his talents in painting, installations, and performances. His creative reach extended to the prestigious National Gallery of Modern Art in Mumbai, where he presented captivating installations and performances. One of his remarkable achievements includes conceptualizing and executing a large-scale performance involving 1500 participants at a football stadium in Kolkata, centered around the theme of letters. Beyond his visual artistry, Ashutosh Apte is a versatile creative force, delving into writing, directing, and designing. He has authored several one-act plays, full-length plays, and screenplays, displaying his narrative finesse. His insightful articles have found a place in numerous periodicals and newspapers. Ashutosh's literary contributions are equally commendable, with two published books to his name: 'Aptyachi Pane' and 'Ishwar-Nashwar.' His artistic and literary endeavours continue to captivate and inspire, making him a prominent figure in the world of arts and culture.

Dr. Minakshi Patil

Dr. Minakshi Patil is a versatile artist, writer, poet, filmmaker, and social activist who currently serves as the Secretary of the Maharashtra State Board of Literature and Culture. She has an outstanding academic record, achieving top honors and seven gold medals for her remarkable performance of standing first class fist in B.A and M.A in Marathi Literature and Aesthetics at Mumbai University. Her talent extends to filmmaking, as evidenced by her documentary film 'Social Impact of Climate Change,' which earned recognition in a World Bank competition in 2008. Dr. Minakshi Patil holds a Ph.D. from Mumbai University, focusing on an analytical study of poems by selected poets in the context of Postmodernism. In addition to her academic achievements, she is a prolific organizer, conceiving and executing fusion shows, talk shows, and workshops. Dr. Minakshi Patil's artistic prowess shines through her extensive exhibitions, including over 20 solo shows and numerous group exhibitions both in India and abroad. Her poetry has been featured at prestigious literary gatherings like the Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, Sahitya Academy, and Bangla Sahitya Sammelan. She has authored poetry books such as 'Is It In Your DNA' and 'Laldyadh's Lullaby,' alongside several other books and theses. Her poems are even part of the curriculum at SNDT University and North Maharashtra University. Throughout her diverse creative and social endeavors, Dr. Minakshi Patil's work reflects a profound commitment to both society and aesthetics, making her a distinguished figure in the arts and culture landscape.

His recent exhibition at the Art & Soul Gallery in Mumbai, centered around 'Golpitha,' a poetry book by renowned poet Padmashree Namdev Dhasal, is a testament to his creative talents. In recognition of his artistic achievements, Professor Bhise received the Maharashtra State Art Exhibition Award in 2004. His exceptional talent has been recognized with numerous prestigious awards, including the Bendre-Husain Scholarship in 1997, the Human Resource Fellowship from the Department of Culture, Government of India in 2002, and the J S Khanderao Award from Hiremath Sansthan Bhalki Bidar K S. His sculptural creations have graced renowned art galleries, including the Jehangir Art Gallery, Y B Chavan Art Gallery, Nehru Centre Art Gallery, Tangent Art Gallery, and the National Gallery of Modern Art. Ajinkya Chaulkar's artistic contributions extend to numerous public spaces, where he has crafted impressive monuments. Notable among these are the bronze bust of former Karnataka Chief Minister "Late Dharamsingh" in Gulbarga in 2018, the bronze bust of Jijamata in Navi Mumbai in 2014, and the bronze statue of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Navi Mumbai.
