Praveen Upadhye

Praveen Upadhye
Born in 1965, in a small town of Shedbal in Belgaum district of Karnataka, was passionate for drawing since his childhood. Known for his ‘Brahmcharis’ series, he always knew in his heart that he would go on to create works on brahmacharis one day as since childhood he has been around them. He shared the wall of his room with the Ashram’s and he used to observe the lives of brahmacharis very closely. He spent enough time in witnessing their lives and found their life very inspiring. His subjects wear long and flowing saffron robes, with red and white tilak on their foreheads and beads around their necks, a bunch of bells. As a keen observer, he grew up watching big metal bells hanging at the entrance of the temple and that the devotees would ring these bells upon entering the sanctum and the sound of the bells would bring calmness and peace, making people to forget about everything else. He likes using water colors, but also uses acrylic on canvas to make people aware about the spiritual life of the enlightened ones. He has participated in several shows including Benan Smiti School of Fine Art, Belgaum, Lalit Kala Akademi, Nehru Centre (Mumbai), India with Art (Washington DC)etc. . Over the years, Praveen has been greatly appreciated by art critics. He strongly believes in appreciating the simplicity of life and is fond of portraying it through his strokes and colours. His observation skills are evident in his works.
